Description

#2777       CD 349.5       FOLEMBRAY   NO 440.       Green.

Height: 5-1/2 inches.

A very attractive French power piece that remains quite rare.  Only one discovery of this type insulator is known.  Jim, Lis and Elisabeth Bergman were driving through France on one of their insulator hunting ventures, when Elisabeth yelled out for Jim to turn the car around and go back to some insulators she had just spotted on a power pole.  When they went back, this insulator is what they saw on a the towering pole!  Jim contacted an EDF (electric company) employee to see if arrangements could be made to retrieve the handful of examples on the line.

It wasn't until a later trip was arranged, that Jim was able to secure the insulators.  As it turned out, all but one of the five or six examples recovered had chips or cracks.  This is the only damage free unit recovered.  Jim considers this one of his favorite insulators from their entire massive collection.  It reminds him of the CD 268 "Crown" insulators.

Most collectors will agree, this gem has a very classy appearance!  The curving lines and contours are quite aesthetically pleasing!

Wonderful, very near mint+ condition!   Some sort of plaster cement should probably be used to better secure the two pieces together, as there is some looseness between the two sections.

CD 102 purple pony insulator is shown for size comparison.

Lis & Jim Bergman collection.
