#2838 CD 135 CHICAGO INSULATING CO. PAT OCT. 16 1883. Aqua. Base embossed.
A highly unusual design, likely produced at a glassworks in Ellenville, New York.
The larger size "Chicago Diamond Groove" with base embossing. A uniquely designed insulator with diamond shaped cutouts within the body, creating less contact between the tie wire and the insulator surface.
Examples have been found in New York State, Illinois and Nebraska. Some were also seen on poles in Panama many years ago. However, the majority of those now in collections were recovered in Mexico.
The base embossed units are scarcer than the shoulder embossed examples.
Has an inconspicuous bruise up from the base, partially seen in the photo (in the skirt, near the base to right of center). Remainder of insulator in especially nice condition!!!
