Description

#139      CD 158.2      BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS.      PATENTED OCT 15 72      Light aqua.     Four segmented threads.     Embossed in a circular fashion around the top of the dome.

The "Boston Barrel" is a rather scarce item, this example being even more elusive and desirable in a light aqua coloration.  The hex dome and four segmented threads are unique characteristics found on insulators produced by Boson Bottle Works.  Samuel Oakman, who was associated with the company in the 1870's, is known for many creative inventions and features on various insulators from the 1860's through the 1890's.

The dome embossed examples are scarcer than those with embossing on the inner skirt.  Most often, the dome embossing is barley visible or not present.  Although weak, most of the embossing is present and readable.

The black "pollywog" in the skirt has a very small annealing halo confined to just the immediate area around it.  Scarce color and great condition!  Entire surface, base, inner skirt and threads are exceptional, very near mint+ condition.

Dick Bowman collection.
