#740 CD 260 CALIFORNIA Yellow.
Nearly all “California” and “C.G.I.” insulators produced at the Long Beach factory were made in offbeat colors not typical to other manufacturers. Very little “aqua” glass was used in production runs. Rather, a wide range of burgundy, rose amethyst, yellow, peach, smoke and sage tints were created.
A fair size number of California helmets were removed from the inside of buildings belonging to the Pacific Lumber Company mill in Scotia, California during the late 1960’s and 1970’s. Various colors were found, including yellow, peach and amethyst. Due to lack of sun exposure, the color of the yellow units remained unchanged over time. Some of the others, exposed to varying amounts of UV light over the years, turned amethyst or "in between" colors. The yellow examples found inside the mill likely represent a sizable portion of the yellow units now in the hobby.
An excellent example with a very near mint exterior. Inner skirt has only a pinkie nail chip that stays mostly on the surface.
