Description

#1056      731      Unmarked.      Blue aqua with olive amber impurities.

The 731 is one of several threadless insulator signal styles which have a concave" skirt.  The "compromise" design was introduced in 1865, claimed to be a combination of the "egg" and "umbrella" forms.  They were soon adopted by various telegraph companies and saw widespread usage around the country.

A sizable proportion of those now in the insulator collecting community were discovered along the 1869 Union Pacific Railroad grade in Wyoming and Utah in the 1960's and 1970's.

Open bubble on the base is only half pinkie nail size.  Very near mint.

Dick Bowman collection.
