Description

#1059     CD 158      BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS.      PATENT APPLIED FOR.      Rich aqua with impurities.      Four segmented threads.

Dark olive-amber impurities cascading down the dome add wonderful character to this "Boston signal."

The Boston Bottle Works operated in Somerville, Massachusetts circa 1871-1877.  Early Boston City Directories indicate the facility produced various articles of glass. Among the wares produced were several different styles of telegraph insulators. Most insulators made at the BBW factory were produced with Samuel Oakman’s patented segmented threads.

The segmented threads and hex shaped dome are classic characteristics of insulators linked to Oakman.

Sparkling, shiny surface.  Perfect embossing on the inner skirt, and overall very near mint!
