Description

#2418        724       CHESTER  N.Y.        Bright cobalt blue.

A glass insert type threadless insulator which probably originally had a wood cover, similar to the "Wade" style insulators shown in the third image.  This design is rarely encountered, with very few examples known, and the color is wonderful!

The "Chester" base embossing is in reference to a telegraph supply company located in New York City which started  business in the mid 1850's and continued into the 1870's.

Attractive, bold embossing and in great condition, having only shallow flaking on the base, not affecting the embossing at all.

The only other similar example we've seen for sale in the past couple decades was an unmarked example sold in Pole Top's late August, 2020 event, where it witnessed spirited bidding.

A wonderful, colorful rarity.
