#2997 CD 186.2 HEMINGRAY-19 Nearly colorless.
A very unusual design with a brass, six sided nut molded inside the dome. A molded hole extends downward from the glass top, through the threaded nut, and into the pinhole which has a metal thimble.
Only limited numbers were found decades ago.
A patent was issued to A.G. Steinmayer for the "spark gap" concept (see second photo). The 1943 patent illustration shows an insulator similar to a CD 186.1. Perhaps the CD 186.2 was designed just before or just after the CD 186.1.
Entire outer area is free of damage and no internal stress fractures. Inner skirt has four small surface chips from about pencil eraser diameter to pinkie nail size.
