Description

#185     740      FOSTER BROTHERS      ST. JOHN. C.E. 1858.     Blackglass.

Base embossed with sizable lettering.  The Fosters were involved with the production of glass for decades.  They engaged in glass making in the Stoddard, New Hampshire area during the 1840's.  At some point in the 1850's, some of them moved to Canada where they produced glass, and later returned back to the US.

A very nice example with minimal small blemishes on the surface.  Open bubble on the base corner has some flaking along the edges, as seen in the second image.

From the collection of the late John Ayer.
