Description

#225     740.7     Unmarked.     Green.

A seldom encountered hat style threadless from Canada. The 740.7 has a base and skirt similar to that of the 740, but from the wire groove upward, there are some dramatic differences. The wire ridge on these units is very sharply pronounced, and the dome is very high with a flat top.

This design has been found in limited numbers. Some were used on the Port Hope, Lindsay & Beaverton Railway which opened in 1857. A section of the mainline Grand Trunk Railway in Southwestern Ontario, and the Bytown & Ottawa Railway also used this type.

Pinkie fingernail chip on the wire ridge.  Base bruise as shown in the second image, at the 9 to 11 o'clock position.  Remainder of insulator has only minor blemishes.

A rare item in an attractive colour.

Update..... 8:35 P.M. Sunday, May 3.  The bruise described above is entirely internal, with no glass missing.
