Description

#550       CD 123      E.C&M CO S.F.      Sapphire blue.      "H" mold with 4-1/4" height.

Produced during the 1870's for the Electrical Construction & Maintenance Company of San Francisco, possibly by a glasshouse in the San Francisco Bay area.  Most blue EC&M's from the earlier period of production were darker shades, primarily cobalt blue.  The later examples were typically not as dark, and of differing tones, such as this sapphire blue jewel.

Olive streaks in the skirt encircle the insulator, adding extra character.

Short flash up from the base, in the left skirt.  Chipping on the reverse base extends about one-third the distance around (as seen in the second photo).

From the collection of the late John Ayer.
