#602 723 Unmarked. Aqua. With unused wood cover.
The unused wood cover surfaced in Oil City, Pennsylvania many years ago, presumably out of an old building. Offered with a bright blue aqua 723 "Dot-Dash" insulator which fits securely within.
Oil City was a "boom town" in the middle 1860's, with a rapidly expanding population. The demand for communication was on the rise in the area, and "Wade" type insulators were among the more heavily used types in the region.
The 7-1/4" tall, wood cover is "museum quality," remaining in a wonderful state of preservation. Heavy, horizontal grooves from the lathe traverse from top to bottom, giving the piece wonderful character.
As with a high percentage of surviving examples, the wood is split from the base, upward to the top, on the back side. The split measures 3/16" at its widest and narrows as it goes upward.
The glass is very near mint.
