Description

#678       CD 158.1     CHESTER      104 CENTRE ST. N.Y.     PATENTED.       Blue aqua.

Known as the "wavy wire groove Chester Boston."  An unusual design with three molded notches in the hex dome, fashioned in a way to receive a patented iron collar with three points.  The collar could be slightly rotated once applied to the insulator, the "wavy" wire groove facilitating the binding action between the collar and the insulator.  See the patent drawing in the third photo.

The insulator has various characteristics typical of insulators produced by Boston Bottle Works, including a hex shaped dome, four segmented threads and embossing placed on the base of the inner skirt.

One example of this insulator was reportedly found decades ago in the St. Louis, Missouri area.  Aside from that lone example, all others with known provenance have been discovered on a short section of telegraph line route along the the Ulster and Delaware Railroad in New York State.

An incredible example with an unused appearance!  Very, very near mint!!!
