Description

#687       CD 127       W1.       Dark green.

While insulators from the threadless era are often found in dark colored glass, early threaded telegraph styles were typically not manufactured in such dark colors.  Although dark, this particular example is not as densely colored as some similar examples offered in Pole Top's sales during the past two to three years.  In a back lighted cabinet, light does pass freely through the skirt and even some through the pinhole area.   Circa 1870-1875.

The manufacturer of the “W1” marked insulators has not been confirmed, but some collectors speculate they were possibly produced by the same glass house that made the “Beaver Falls” type insulators.  While only the marked B.F.G. Co and S.T. Paisley marked items have more definitive evidence of Beaver Falls production, the related embossed and unmarked threaded CD 127, 132.2 and 133.2 units were likely made there too.  There is a reasonable possibility all the named items were produced in Beaver Falls.

An amazing example in sparkling, very, very near mint condition!
