Description

#1184       1010       Unmarked.      Dark olive green.

A threadless era insulator which is similar to the Yandell insulator which was patented in 1851.  The insulator was placed in a cross-arm or notch in the side of a pole in a horizontal position.  The line wire then rested in the slot that enters the insulator from the top.

Various forms of the "block" style insulator, as well as this type, similar to a Yandell, were produced.  This particular mold variant has surfaced only in the West, and it's speculated they were produced at a very early glasshouse in the San Francisco area,

This Western type rarely surfaces for sale.

Some chipping as shown in the photo, but all of the few existing examples we have encountered have varying degrees of damage.
