Description

#1248        CD 267.5      N.E.G.M. CO.      Rich, medium-dark green.

Great density in the glass color, which allows light to pass freely throughout the entire insulator. A large, and very impressive power piece!

The "N.E.G.M. CO. marking represents the New England Glass Manufacturing Company.

The deep saddle groove allowed the heavy copper strand conductor to lay in the groove without the use of a tie wire. The only confirmed usage for this type insulator has been on the mass transit system in the Boston, Massachusetts area.

Conductor rub marks in the middle of the saddle, very common for this item.  Bruise at the lower skirt (see second image) is the only damage worthy of mention.
