Description

#1260      735      U.P.R.R.      MULFORD & BIDDLE.      Aqua.

The 735 threadless insulators with “U.P.R.R.” embossing were produced for use on the historic, first transcontinental railroad line in America, completed in 1869.  They were placed in service through Wyoming and into Utah, all the way to Promontory, where the rails of the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific met.

Displays well from both the embossed "UPRR" mold half or with the Mulford & Biddle to the front.  Has a thumbnail chip on the side base edge and an associated large skirt bruise which is only partially seen when viewed with embossing centered to the front.  See third photo for damaged area.

Remainder of insulator in fairly nice condition, having a finger nail wire groove bruise and some staining on the interior pinhole from exposure to alkaline soil.

From the collection of the late Lawrence Carpenter.
