Perhaps the latest threadless insulator produced in the US. Some were installed on telegraph lines in the 1870's, and possibly into the 1880's.
Two shallow, flake type chips are side by side on the base (see photo, base center). One the size of a pinkie nail, the other index fingernail. Surface is just a bit hazy in places.
