Description

#1624      CD 158.2       BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS.   PATENT APLD FOR       Aqua.

Four segmented threads.  Hex shaped dome.

Produced during the 1870’s by the Boston Bottle Works in Somerville, Massachusetts, using Samuel Oakman's patented process for forming threads in glass.  Oakman received two patents in October, 1872 for collapsible plungers used in the manufacture of glass insulators which resulted in segmented threading.

Fairly large embossing on the base of the inner skirt is perfectly intact.

Insulator was dug, with some light haziness.  Slight wear on dome top.  Shallow fingernail chip on upper wire groove (second photo, to the left of the interior thread).  Other small and minor blemishes.
