Description

#1646      U-186       PATENED AUG 11-14      OTHER PAT’S PEND’G       (spelling error “Patened)        Brown porcelain.

Research indicates that all Purkey patent insulators with a trackable provenance have been traced to usage in the State of Washington. Benjamin Purkey, a resident of Tacoma, Washington received a patent on August 11, 1914 for this novel insulator.

Limited numbers of them were recovered by power company linemen 45 to 50 years ago. Due to the complex design, the insulators were molded in three separate pieces and then glazewelded together.

This beauty was chipped on the slot corner prior to being glazed.  The glaze was then applied right over top of the finger nail size chip, creating wonderful character!  Also has a runny-drippy glaze near the base.  A contender for the best character on a Purkey patent insulator!

Like most examples, thick glaze on the dome top covers much of the lettering.

Very, near mint condition. Quite nice for this damage prone style!
