Description

#2448        CD 154        WHITALL TATUM CO NO 1.        Dark oxblood amber.

Very few examples have been found in this color!  Regular production of the No.1 style by Whitall Tatum was typically in pastel shades of aqua and sometimes other light tints. Examples of what is generally termed “dark red amber” are few and far between. We call this one “oxblood” amber because a side-by-side comparison to a true oxblood CD 162 H.G. Co. signal reveals this is just as red (if not more so) as the signal!

Examples of this insulator appear to be present on the bottom crossarm of the scene shown in the second photo.  This amazing old photograph shows a pole used by the Bell labs to test insulators, including various rare insulator types.  Note there are even a group of CD 176 "mushrooms" on the second arm down from the top.

Wonderful, sparkling, shiny surface... a very, very near mint beauty!
