Description

#2535      CD 1038       CUTTER  PAT APR 26 04.       Aqua.

Scott Cutter received a patent on April 26, 1904 for a uniquely styled insulator that could be used in areas where trees obstructed the alignment of utility wires. Rather than line construction crews expending great amounts of time and incurring additional expense removing limbs or cutting down trees, the Cutter insulator could be installed directly onto the tree.  Wire was threaded through the two eye openings and wrapped around the tree trunk or limb during installation.

Cutter's patent drawing shows an insulator with a corrugated, concave base, which is the type most often found in collections.  This unit has the much scarcer "coffin bottom."  Far fewer of this type have been found.

Top of insulator was molded with a crude, pebbly surface, and most of the embossing is obliterated.

Typically found with damage, this jewel remains one of the best condition Cutter insulators ever encountered.  Has an unused appearance.  Likely stored in a building and never installed on a line.  Has one chip at the base corner, smaller than a pinkie nail.  Remainder of the base is flawless... in fact the rest of the entire insulator appears flawless!

Worth a premium for the outstanding condition!
