Threadless insulator produced for the Montreal Telegraph Company, which was formed in 1847. The company used various types of threadless insulators during the 30+ years the company existed. The 742 design was likely developed during the 1860's and continued to be installed on communication lines into the 1870's.
Flat base chip removes "MT" and about half the "C". Remainder of the insulator is nice, with just a couple base flakes and a couple flakes up from the base. Priced reasonable considering it's a wonderful display example.
