Description

#2848      CD 399       E.I.V.     325 AT        Light aqua.

Height: 8-1/2 inches.  Width: 9-1/8 inches.

A giant, bell shaped insulator from France with two inner shells.  These impressive insulators were installed in foggy or industrial areas where dust and contaminants would otherwise cause electrical problems with regular insulator designs.

Lis Bergman, in her informative book on insulators manufactured by L'Electro Verre / Sediver quotes a report on this style of insulator: "These insulators, created in 1933, shall avoid any maintenance, effective in the immediate vicinity of the sea, on lines subject to sea spray and prone to deposits of sand and salt.  Successful in industrial areas: metal plants, chemicals, etc, and are subject to deposits of dust and conductive fumes."

Lis goes on to state: "When first made in 1933, the 'fog bowls' were substantially built with three skirts.  The outer skirt was slightly flared from the shoulders down and had a heavy rolled-edge on the base.  Over time the outer skirt was straightened and the edge became less prominent."

This jewel is one of the later versions, with straighter skirt and minimal flange at the base edge.

A large and very impressive insulator!

Very near mint+ condition.

From the Jim & Lis Bergman collection.
