Description

#3201      U-2897       Unmarked.      White porcelain.

Insulator height: 4-3/4 inches.   Length of iron display unit: 12-7/8 inches.

An amazing, historical insulator found in France by Jim & Lis Bergman.  There's a deeply grooved cross-top and the insulator base curls inward and upward to form an interior reservoir for insulating oil.

Various insulator types were produced in both glass and porcelain using the oil reservoir concept.  This is among the most special, since it has the original iron mounting bracket, copper wire and remains in untouched, uncleaned condition.  And what a bracket it is!!!!!  Talk about overkill!  The approximately 1-1/4 inch diameter iron bracket is heavy enough to be used as a hitch for pulling a railroad car!

Jim had a high quality display unit fabricated out of heavy sheet iron, and it handsomely displays the historical relic.

Lis & Jim Bergman collection.
