Description

#3254         CD 102       N.W.&.B.I.T. CO.        Icy yellow green.

Various colour examples can be found in these embossed pony style insulators.  The scarce amethyst units range from nearly colorless to a rich, dark amethyst shade.  All green shades are much more elusive.  This particular example is quite unusual, having an icy yellowish tint to the green.

Some wear on the insulator dome indicates it was used on a chair leg, a practice employed to protect persons working in offices from receiving an electrical charge when lightning struck the line outside.  Maybe this indicates the insulator could have turned purple if exposed to sunlight, but perhaps remained in the original manufactured colour due to lack of UV exposure.  If that's the case, this icy yellow green example could be exceptionally rare due to the circumstances.

Produced for the New Westminster & Burrard Inlet Telephone Company, which operated telephone lines in the general vicinity of Vancouver, British Columbia.  Although the company serviced lines in that area, the majority of embossed NW&BIT ponies have been found far to the east, in a completely different region.

For those seeking rarities, here's an oddity to pursue!

Dull, worn area on dome top from chair leg usage, and just a little wear on wire ridge.  Remainder of insulator is totally free of any damage!!!!

Lots #3254 through #3258 are shown in the second photo.

Update: 11:15 A.M, Thursday, October 5.  There is obvious evidence of letters and punctuation being blotted out on the reverse skirt, including a raised "comma" still present.  This is where earlier engraving for "NESS, McLAREN & BATE" was removed.

Update #2:   3:25 P.M. Friday, October 6.  Third photo added, showing the insulator with more detail.  The dark area on the left, lower wire ridge is a reflection, not damage.  The circular area at upper left dome is a bubble inside the rear dome.
