Description

#3291       CD 143      Unmarked.        Amethyst.

Horizontal ridges above the wire groove.  One single ridge spirals downward, right to left, from the wire ridge to the base.

Frederick Withycombe was granted patents for various ridge configurations on insulators during 1899 in both Canada and the US.   These small beehive shaped units are believed to have been produced in Canada.

The colour of this example is a somewhat stronger amethyst than most examples, making it a desirable colour variant for the specialist to acquire.

Some of the ridges have flakes, but certainly fewer than on many Withycombe insulators.  Outside edge of the base has a clean slice about 1/4 the distance around.  Attractive!

Update: 10:35 A.M. Thursday, October 5.  Second and third images added, showing the clean slice along the base edge (red arrows).  Remainder of base in excellent condition.  Any contrasting light/dark areas on other portions of base are reflections... not damage.
