A scarce color for this mold-line-over-dome beehive produced by Brookfield. Brookfield manufactured few amethyst insulators during the early period of glass production.
The dome embossed Brookfield lettering and street address marking is weak, but mostly legible. The 1870 patent date on reverse dome shows an attempt to blot out, but the lettering is still partly discernible.
Examples in amethyst coloration are reported to have been found in several different states, some as far south as Florida.
Bruise type fracture on reverse skirt, to the right and above a fully encased bubble (see second photo). Otherwise only minor blemishes (pinhead and match head size).
