Large bubble enclosed inside the glass adds special character and desirability.
Known as the "Smooth Wade," these glass inserts fit snugly into a large, beehive shaped, wood covering (see third image).
This threadless insulator style saw widespread usage on lines in which Jeptha Wade was associated. The Western Union Telegraph Company used quantities of them, mostly on new line construction from the early to middle 1860’s. They have been found in a widespread area, most heavily concentrated in the Midwest.
Some chipping on the base. Thumbnail chip and longer chip on dome top are shallow (see second photo).
Love that bubble!
