Description

#3403           Unmarked.       Lignum Vitae wood.

An early 1900's “San Francisco Wooden” insulator which was used on the trolley system in San Francisco, California.

Still retains a little of the old "municipal green" paint, mostly in the wire groove.

Round top type, which is much scarcer than the cable top design.   The cable top types were used on straight sections of the line, with the heavy conductor placed in the top saddle groove.  This round top design was used on corners, thus far fewer of them are available in the hobby.

Compared to Lot #3402, this one has a broader, flatter dome and less pronounced wire ridge.

Third photo is a vintage photo showing the San Francisco Wooden insulators in use.

Excellent, original, weathered condition.
