Description

#3540         CD 162      H.G. CO.    PATENT MAY 2 1893.      Icy pink tint.

Transition type embossing with "rocking horse" style numeral "2."

This mold was initially embossed simply "H.G. CO" on the front skirt and "Petticoat' on the reverse.  The original marking was positioned in the middle of the skirt.  After the granting of the "drip point" patent in 1893, the mold was engraved with additional patent date lettering.  This later engraving was "squeezed" into the small space between the HG Co lettering and the base, and is referred to as "transition" embossing, in reference to the transition from smooth base units and drip pointed examples.

Examples with an "icy" tint are seldom encountered.  An impressive color run of six different variants is being offered in this event.  Assembling such a diverse group could take decades, so there's a golden opportunity to add examples at this time.

Shallow, flake type chip below the "M" is only half the size of a pinkie nail.  Match head flake on the upper wire ridge.  Other minuscule blemishes.  Most collectors would simply call it "very near mint," as it remains in excellent overall condition.
