Description

#3543         CD 162      H.G. CO.    PATENT MAY 2 1893.      Icy green tint.

The glass has bright, sparkling characteristics with excellent clarity.

Transition type embossing with "rocking horse" style numeral "2."

This mold was initially embossed simply "H.G. CO" on the front skirt and "Petticoat' on the reverse.  The original marking was positioned in the middle of the skirt.  After the "drip point" patent was granted in 1893, the mold was engraved with additional patent date lettering.  This later engraving was "squeezed" into the small space between the HG Co lettering and the base, and is referred to as "transition" embossing, in reference to the transition from smooth base units and drip pointed examples.

Examples with an "icy" tint are seldom encountered.  An impressive color run of six different variants is being offered in this event.  Assembling such a diverse group could take decades, so there's a golden opportunity to add examples at this time.

When produced, a small amount of molten glass squeezed between the mold pieces, forming a small glass "fin" in the right wire groove, remaining fully intact for over 125 years!

Drip points remain in exceptional condition, with only one partially flaked!!!  The damage prone, sharp wire ridge also remains in spectacular condition!  Here's one for those collectors seeking immaculate condition items.
