Description

#3567         CD 162       HEMINGRAY-19        Vivid, dark cobalt blue.

Round drip points.

An especially rich color tone in this beauty!!!!

Cobalt blue, signal style insulators were used at various locations, but to a large degree in the State of Kansas, where utility companies employed them as special marker insulators on power lines.

For a period of decades, from about the 1890's until more modern times, many insulators were intentionally produced and supplied to utility companies in varying colors as a means for those companies to color code lines to distinguish differing voltages or separate ownership of lines on a pole.

The second image shows a portion of a page from the 1910 Electric Appliance Company Catalogue, which explains the subject in greater detail.

A bubble within the glass at the base resulted in one drip point missing.  All other drip points are fully formed and without damage.  Remainder of insulator is sparkling, very, very near mint.
