Description

#3584       731       Unmarked.       Aqua.

An unmarked "Compromise" style insulator, likely used along the transcontinental Union Pacific Railroad.  This concave skirt design was introduced in 1865, and soon became the standard installed by Western Union Telegraph company and other competitors.

A large percentage of this type insulator now in collections came from the Union Pacific Railroad right of way in Wyoming and Utah.

Overall hazy surface from exposure to the elements.  Numerous small, white, speck marks on the surface, the majority being pinhead size or smaller.  Perhaps a half dozen are a little larger, but none larger than a match head other than a short wire rub.  Short, shallow annealing line mentioned for sake of accuracy is of no harm.  No chips or cracks.
