#3607 CD 640 VA Deep amber.
Height: 3-7/8 inches. Known as the "Gingerbread Boy."
The deep amber coloration in this example is described by Lis Bergman as being "the only one known." It's dark, but does pass a little light through one thickness of the lower skirt when viewed on a glass shelf. A once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase this color variant?
A glass factory by the name of La Verrerie Ouvriere d’Albi was formed in 1896 in the town of Albi, France. Bottles were produced at the glasshouse for a number of years. In 1917, the factory began making insulators for the French National Defense. Various insulators were manufactured at the plant, including the CD 640 Gingerbread Boys with VA marking.
Third image is a vintage illustration of the factory. Courtesy Lis & Jim Bergman.
A wide range of colors were manufactured in insulators with "VA" marking, and the group of five in this auction is a great opportunity for both the novice and advanced collector. Both very affordable and very rare items are represented.
Very near mint.
