#3608 CD 642 VA Dark amber mix.
Height: 5-5/8 inches. Known as the "Gingerbread Man."
An exceptionally rare color for a CD 642 insulator! An amazing mix of various amber shades are swirled throughout the entire insulator! This one is lighter in color than the small "boy" in Lot #3607. Light passes through the skirt when displayed in a back lighted cabinet. Want to witness a real treat? Create a display unit with very bright under-lighting that illuminates the entire insulator. WOW!!!!!
A glass factory by the name of La Verrerie Ouvriere d’Albi was formed in1896 in the town of Albi, France. Bottles were produced at the glasshouse for a number of years. In 1917, the factory began making insulators for the French National Defense. Various insulators were manufactured at the plant, including the CD 642 Gingerbread Men with VA marking.
Fourth image is a vintage illustration of the factory. Courtesy Lis & Jim Bergman.
A wide range of colors were manufactured in insulators with "VA" marking, and the group of five in this auction is a great opportunity for both the novice and advanced collector. Both very affordable and very rare items are represented.
Very near mint.
