#3706 CD 126 2 W. BROOKFIELD 55 FULTON ST. N.Y. (1870, 1870 and 1879 dates). Rich yellow olive with amber.
Excellent depth of color in this beauty! The rich, dark olive colored glass has yellow toning and there are some amber impurities thrown in for extra zing.
Known as the "Blob-Top," these early threaded insulators were produced by Brookfield in a wide variety of green shades/tones and other attractive colors. As a result of the numerous embossing and color variations, they are quite popular with collectors.
Production of this style started in the 1870's and continued for decades, into the 21st century. The Western Union Telegraph Company used a "Standard" insulator on most of their new line construction and rebuilds of old lines. The design preferred by W.U.T. Co changed every few years, and for a period of time the CD 126 was their preferred model.
All embossing is strong and well defined, more so than many examples of this type insulator.
Base flake is half pinkie nail width. Another is match head size, and two a little larger than match head. All are shallow and do little harm. Bright shiny glass... a beauty!
Update 8:50 P.M. Saturday, February 24. Second image added. Red arrows indicates two base flakes previously described.
