Description

#3710        CD 145       H.G. CO.      PETTICOAT.        Teal.

Upside down "L" on front skirt.

Attractive and seldom encountered, the teal examples contrast nicely with various amethyst and purple beehives.

The insulator design known as the "beehive" was introduced first as a threadless type.  The wood covers for "Wade" insulators were of this design, as were the glass Canadian threadless in the 743 series.  Later, in the 1880's, this style of insulator became popular and was widely used.  The Western Union Telegraph Company adopted it as their "standard" for a number of years, and used sizable quantities of them, produced by various manufacturers.

CD 145's produced by the Hemingray Glass Company can be found in a wide range of colors, making them quite popular with collectors. Examples can be found in numerous shades/tones of the amber, purple, blue and green families.

Easily grades very near mint.

Formerly in the Bill Reid collection.
