Description

#3718-A       CD 190-191      CALIFORNIA        Amethyst.

Produced in Long Beach, California by a glass house that was known as California Glass Insulator Company, and later as California Glass Works.  The factory is reported have started operation in 1912 and existed for a few years.  Various designs of California insulators were produced, including three different transposition styles.  The CD 190-191, 200 and 201 are all elusive, the two piece CD 190-191 being the most coveted.

Very few examples are known, and they rarely surface for sale.

The top section has burgundy amethyst toning, whereas the bottom section has a touch more smokey amethyst coloration.  Fairly thick dome glass in the top piece exhibits the color nicely.

Shallow, surface annealing line in the top section wire groove (common in California insulators and not damage).  Bottom piece has a chip on the side, which has been repaired, as marked with white dots in third photo.

A rare one!!!!!!

Update 7:50 A.M. Saturday, February 24.  To clarify, the chip mentioned to be on the side skirt, which has been repaired, does NOT go all the way through the thickness of the glass.
