#3728 CD 188 Unmarked. Green and amber mix.
Well defined amber streaks throughout!..... quite an attractive color!
This peculiar insulator design was patented in 1886 by Robert Brown of Brooklyn, N.Y., assignor to E.S. Greeley & Co. The concept involved an insulator with pinhole that traversed all the way through the insulator, which could be mounted on the underside of a cross-arm. This design eventually served the purpose of adding additional wires to a pole without adding more cross-arms. Rather, a long duplex pin, which was threaded on both the upper and lower ends, could be secured in the cross-arm and insulators attached above and below, thus doubling the capacity of the cross-arms.
Various glass houses produced this type insulator for a period of several decades.
This CD 188 is larger than the more often encountered smaller CD 187 units. Green examples are seldom encountered, and the additional amber streaking makes it quite desirable.
Very near mint. Has the typical flaking/chipping at the pinhole opening where the thin glass disk was punched out at the glass factory.
