Description

#3737        CD 110.5      NAT. INSUL. CO.       (multiple patent dates).       Aqua.

Two segmented threads.     The small "Corkscrew."

Most examples of this uniquely shaped insulator currently in collections were recovered along the route of a long distance telephone line constructed by American Telephone & Telegraph Company between New York City and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The unusual insulator design was patented by Joseph Lewis in 1883 (see third image).  The concept involved a spiral top which received a horse shoe shaped clip, which facilitated rapid attachment to the line wire without using a standard tie wire.

First photo depicts the actual insulator offered.  Second image is a stock photo depicting the same embossing configuration.

Entire base and all the embossing in excellent condition.  Overall, very near mint+ condition!
