Description

#3809       CD 186.2       HEMINGRAY-19        Nearly colorless.

"Hex nut."

A very unusual design with a brass, six sided nut molded inside the dome.  Examples have a molded hole extending downward from the glass top, through the threaded nut, and into the pinhole which has a metal thimble.

Only limited numbers were found decades ago.

A patent was issued to A.G. Steinmayer for the "spark gap" concept (see second photo).  The 1943 patent illustration shows an insulator similar to a CD 186.1.  Perhaps the CD 186.2  was designed just before or just after the CD 186.1.

Top portion of insulator is removed.  Hex nut is still present.  Internal fracture in the wire ridge and wire groove.  Remainder of insulator is free of chips and dings.  There's just a little patchy haze on the interior.

An opportunity to purchase an example to fill a spot on your shelf at a fraction of the cost of a v.n.m unit.
