Description

#1367      CD 158.2     BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS.   PATENT APLD FOR      Aqua.

Produced during the 1870’s by the Boston Bottle Works in Somerville, Massachusetts, using Samuel Oakman's patented process for forming threads in glass.  Oakman received two patents in October, 1872 for collapsible plungers used in the manufacture of glass insulators which resulted in segmented threading.

Dug in a Michigan privy many years ago, this "Boston Barrel" has a wonderful "oxidized" surface, reflecting light with an attractive rainbow effect.

The damage prone wire ridges are especially nice, with a half pinkie nail flake on the lower wire ridge (old and oxidized).  Half fingernail shallow base chip.  Inner skirt is quite nice with fully intact embossing.  Each of the four segmented threads within the pinhole have chipping on he lower portion.

Overall, a great looking example with an attractive old appearance.
