Description

#3231      CD 123      E.C&M CO S.F.       Aqua with swirls.

"B" mold variant.  3-5/8'' height.

The well defined, nicely separated swirls in the glass have an appearance quite similar to the Cal. Elec. Works insulator in Lot #2329.  The swirls follow a relaxed, meandering pattern which is quite eye-pleasing.

A small number of swirled EC&M's have been found in California along the route of the Ridge Telephone Company line which was completed in 1878, becoming the world's first long distance telephone line.  A handful of swirled units were also found in Nevada.

Many of the Ridge line examples have patchy or heavy contamination, whereas this one has more defined streaks with excellent separation from the clean, transparent glass. This beauty was found on the Ridge in the early 1970's.

The base on many EC&M's is thin and tapered, resulting in chipping or extensive flaking.  Not the case with this jewel... remaining in excellent overall condition!  There are two shallow base flakes, each the size of a pinkie nail, and another up from the base on reverse.  Otherwise, two minor, shallow flakes from the wire groove of no consequence (match head and half pinkie nail).

The base has an attractive, swirled underpour.  Overall, a great looking beauty!

Update: 1:40 P.M. Thursday, October 5.  Height information has been added to the description.  An especially desirable shortie, with only 3-5/8'' height.
