Description

#3519        CD 162      H.G. CO.       PATENT MAY 2 1893     Rich blue with red streaks and white globs.

A rich blue coloration coined “electricock” by the late Bill Reid due to the color tone falling between dark electric blue and peacock blue. Bill retrieved this rare beauty from a power pole in the Pacific Northwest many decades ago.

A large amount of opaque red impurities are streaked through much of the insulator. The opaque red streaks appear black or dark in the photos. However, with sunlight or direct artificial lighting, the streaks appear very similar to the color of auto body “Rustoleum” primer paint.

We’ve only seen two or three other blue insulators with these unusual, opaque red impurities, and they had only small amounts of the eye-catching contamination. In addition, large white globs appear like cotton balls within the glass.

A little shallow flaking at lower skirt, visible in the photos. Inconspicuous bruise, up from five drip points below the patent date. Internal annealing stress follows one of the milky streaks. Great condition drip points.

A highly unusual jewel, previously in the Bill Reid collection.
