Description

#3626       735      TILLOTSON & CO.   16 BROADWAY N.Y.        Rich olive.

Rich, bright coloration! Only a handful of 735 Tillotsons are known in this attractive color. They were found decades ago along the old Cariboo Wagon Road to the north of Clinton, British Columbia.

The Collins Overland Telegraph Company constructed a single wire telegraph line in 1865 along the newly built wagon road in that area. Several different colors of Tillotson threadless have been found along the route, this being among the rarest and most desirable.

Dome portion of the embossing is weakened, while the skirt marking is quite strong.

Shallow wire ridge chip is 2/3 the size of a pinkie nail (at right in photo). Small, surface blemish on the lower right/center dome is only one quarter inch in diameter. Otherwise, just a touch of very shallow flaking at the base. Certainly one of the best condition examples in existence!

A rare beauty!

Update, 10:20 A.M. Wednesday, January 24.  The base was originally described as having "shallow flaking."  There is a little, minor, shallow flaking which does no harm.  In addition, there is an area of glass removal that more accurately should be termed a shallow chip, which is shown in the second image.
