Description

#3631       728.4      W. BROOKFIELD   55 FULTON ST. N.Y.      CAUVET’S PAT  JULY 25 1865.      Rich blue aqua.

Embossed patent date for a threaded interior, yet it has a threadless pinhole.

This example was formerly owned by Carl Rusk, who obtained it while working in south Texas constructing a telephone line. It was among his favorite insulators. Now deceased, Carl once related the experience: “I was foreman of an installation crew and saw a young boy was watching our operations very closely. It took three days for him to get up enough courage to bring that insulator to me.”

Ross Baird further adds: “The Mexican boy approached Carl with a burlap bag over his shoulder. He could not speak English. Carl finally figured out that he wanted to sell him insulators. He told the boy he had plenty of insulators and did not need any. About that time the boy pulled one out of his sack. Carl realized they were threadless and made a deal with him for all 13 aqua 728.4 Brookfields!”

Excerpts from a 1879 report, shown in the third image, details construction of one section of military line built in south Texas. In all likelihood, this threadless was used on one of the military lines shown on the map.

Dated side of dome is nicely embossed.  Brookfield embossing is faint.

Very near mint with haziness on portions of the glass surface.  Wire is in AMAZING condition!

A great relic with wonderful history!!!!
