#3695 735 U.P.R.R. MULFORD & BIDDLE Light aqua with streaks.
The 735 threadless insulators with “U.P.R.R.” embossing were produced for use on the historic, first transcontinental railroad line across America, completed in 1869. They were placed in service through Wyoming and into Utah, all the way to Promontory, where the rails of the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific met.
The 735 "pilgrim hat" design is among the more popular types among threadless collectors. Various company names can be found on 735's, and a wide range of colors can be assembled in some of those groups, especially in the Tillotson and Chester groupings.
It's unusual to have a wide range of color variants of the embossed "U.P.R.R." available for purchase all at one time, so collectors have a special treat with the examples offered in this sale!
Mulford & Biddle theadless without the U.P.R.R. marking are often found in light aqua, but units with additional railroad marking are scarcer in this lightly colored glass. Attractive amber streaks and wisps add character and value to this jewel... a characteristic rarely encountered in U.P.R.R units.
Two fingernail chips on the base, with extended tails, join each other for a total of about 1/4 the distance around. They remain flat and the tails are narrow. Entire outer area of insulator is sparkling shiny, and free of damage!
