Description

#321     CD 265     FISHER ELECTRIC RAILWAY SYSTEM.    BUILT BY DETROIT ELECTRICAL WORKS.      Light green.

A highly unusual pin-type insulator with flat top for a "third rail" application.  The initial example in the hobby was found in California, where a short electric railway line was built in the San Jose area.  Decades later, a small discovery of more examples was made in Michigan, where they had been used on a line servicing Highland Park in the late 1880's.

Most examples have varying degrees of damage, some with large chips.  This particular unit is better than most with a chip on the top right corner, as seen in the first photo.  In the second photo, a smaller, shallow fingernail chip is located on the top right.  Otherwise, some surface blemishes as seen in the photos, but no chips on the base or arms.

From the collection of the late John Ayer.
