#958 CD 187 CALIFORNIA. Smoky amethyst.
This "duplex" insulator was designed to be used on a pin beneath a crossarm or bottom of a duplex bracket. They were produced by various glass houses. The "California" embossed examples are quite scarce compared to the units manufactured by Brookfield.
Very shallow, flake type chip, up from base on reverse, is the size of an index fingernail, then narrows upward 3/8". Thin, excess glass at the base was lightly ground at the glass factory.
